So, before saying, “I do” and cherishing the most awaited day of your life, check out our top tips on how to choose the perfect wedding rings that you’ll love to wear forever.

Set Your Budget

Given that you’ll be wearing these rings for a long time, expect to spend about 3% of the overall wedding budget on rings alone. Also, depending on the retailer, these rings could range to from a couple of hundreds to a thousand pounds.

Engravings or other embellishments will quickly add to the overall cost.

Your budget will help you narrow down your ring options, from the material to the choice of gemstones.

Start Shopping Early

Don’t wait until the week before the wedding to get your rings. Just like planning for your wedding gown, plan your rings at least 2 to 3 months or even 6 months before the wedding date.

Why?

You need time to browse for options, compare prices, revisit each ring that caught your attention, discuss with your soon-to-be husband and many more.

In fact, bespoke jewellery will have to be custom-made or ordered and then shipped, which requires time. Engravings could take up to a month.

You can’t ever rush quality!

 Know the Different Metals

Initially, wedding bands were mainly bought in classic gold. However, the industry has become very creative. You can have your wedding bands designed in various materials.

Choosing the right material could sometimes become an overwhelming endeavour—from gemstones to diamonds to gold or platinum.

Relax! Don’t panic! There’s plenty of time.

Start by asking yourself the following questions:

  • Can you see yourself wearing a simple band or with embellishments?
  • Do you want the wedding range to be the same as your engagement ring?
  • Do you want your ring to match your partner’s?

Before cementing your decision, think of these questions to make shopping around easier.

Here are a few precious metals you can choose from:

Yellow gold. This is a good option for traditional grooms- and brides-to-be. For everyday use, consider purchasing an 18ct, 14ct or 9ct gold, since 22ct is too soft. Yellow gold is often mixed with tougher metals, making them better suited for day-to-day life.

White gold. This perfectly complements a platinum engagement band. To enhance their appearance, they’re often plated with rhodium. The only drawback is rhodium wears off over time. But it can be easily reapplied to make your wedding band look good as new!

Platinum. This has gained much popularity among modern couples. Often, white-coloured metals are extremely tough, and they do stand-up well to everyday use. Although platinum is more rare than gold and possibly more expensive, they will last forever, unmarked.

Palladium. If platinum is way over your intended budget, consider getting palladium instead, which has greatly become a popular alternative to platinum. It has a similar colour but is more budget-friendly.

Titanium. This is more of a contemporary metals, with a striking colour that sets it apart from platinum and palladium. It is light on the finger and is also scratch resistant.

Diamond-Set Rings

Are you planning on including a gemstone or a diamond?

Diamond-set wedding bands are more commonly found in wedding rings nowadays, providing a sparkly backdrop for the engagement ring. Additionally, these wedding rings have found favour with men’s wedding rings too!

These are usually either princess- or brilliant-cut diamonds. But you can always find other diamond shapes to your liking. However, the more unusual the shape of the diamond, the more glamorous your wedding ring, the more expensive it will be.

Comfort Is Paramount

Your wedding band should sit perfectly in your ring finger. It shouldn’t be too tight or too loose that you end up taking them off and then eventually losing them.

Your jeweller will have a special ring size guide for you to measure exactly your ring size. Also, don’t forget to have your ring resize in the future since your finger size could change over the years.

Quality Is Key

Quality control also applies to wedding bands. Check if there are 2 marks inside— the quality mark, 24K or PLAT, and the manufacturer’s trademark.

The PLAT or 24K, for example, proves that the quality of the metal is what the jeweller says it is. Meanwhile, the trademark proves that stand behind their most precious work.

DO NOT Forget the Rings on the Big Day!

Double check, triple check if you have to, that whoever is responsible for carrying the rings on your big day is aware of his or her role to play and secure the rings. Leave someone in charge, since most likely you’ll be too busy to think about that!

Remember planning is everything, from choosing a once-in-a-lifetime bespoke jewellery to saying the most awaited line of your whole life and committing to a lifetime of love, happiness and challenges.
